Literatur des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts – Dieses Werk, Hogarths letztes, basiert auf den chaotischen, turbulenten Wahlen in Oxfordshire im Jahr 1754, bei denen der Herzog von Marlborough, ein Whig ("das Neue Interesse"), die fest verwurzelten Tories ("das Alte Interesse") in deren etablierter Hochburg herausforderte. Diese Serie, die sich an die obere Mittelschicht und die Oberschicht richtet, zeigt den Zynismus der aristokratischen Klasse gegenüber der Wahlpolitik und schildert deren Versuche, die Bevölkerung zu manipulieren. Sie stellt Politiker beider Parteien dar, die Slogans, Schmeichelei, Bestechung, Alkohol, Essen und Kleinigkeiten einsetzen, um die Bevölkerung im Interesse ihrer eigenen undemokratischen Ambitionen auszubeuten. - Ohne das 1.
