Barock
Literatur des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts – Erste Ausgabe. - Vgl. VD18 14765802, VD18 15234169 u.
Literature of 17th to 19th Century – First edition. - Cf. VD18 14765802, VD18 15234169 and VD18 15234614. - The bound-in parts each have their own title and an engraved frontispiece: Tuba Virginea and Tuba Panegyrica. - The work combines the labours of two Franconian Benedictine monks. Fr. Placidus Urtlauff was the principal author but died before printing was finished. After Urtlauff's death, Gregor Fuchs added to and completed the unfinished manuscript. Fuchs later rose to become the influential abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Theres am Main in 1717. The sermons are extremely rich in "annehmliche Concepte" (Baroque conceits), historical exempla (illustrative stories) and quotations from the Church Fathers. The authors use forceful, vivid language to denounce vices such as avarice, pride and gluttony and to rouse the faithful morally. - Bookplate and name on front pastedown.
