Barock
Literature of 17th to 19th Century – A detailed and thorough exposition of the Gospel readings from St John. F. Peikhart was an Austrian Jesuit and preacher who served for many years as cathedral preacher at St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. For Baroque preachers such as Peikhart, the Gospel of John held special importance. The first three Gospels (the Synoptics) mainly describe the deeds of Jesus. The Gospel of John, by contrast, is seen as the most theologically profound, because it puts the divine nature of Jesus in the foreground. This divine nature was a central theme of Baroque piety. - Browned in places, name on front pastedown.
