Lose 1 - 1706

Lot 640 2 Bll. Vexierbild …

2 Bll. Vexierbild (Keerprent): Die vierfach verheiratete Frau. 1. Kupferstich auf Bütten. Um 1700. Plattenmaße 20,5 x 15,5 cm, Blattmaße 33,5 x 20 cm. Im oberen Rand nummeriert. 2. Rötel, Feder in Braun und Schwarz auf Bütten. Um 1730. 19,5 x 16,5 cm. Mit Bleistift bez. "Ec. Hollandaise". Bll.

Old Master Prints – 2 sheets. Puzzle picture (Keerprent): The Four Times Married Woman. 1. Copper engraving on laid paper. 2. Red chalk, pen and brown and black ink on laid paper. Inscribed in pencil "Ec. Hollandaise". Each sheet hinged at points to a backing sheet beneath a passe-partout. - Satirical puzzle picture which, when rotated by 90° each time, reveals the heads of a young woman, a sheep, an old man with a ram's horn and a further man, each accompanied by a numbered Dutch couplet in which the woman mocks her husbands. The drawing reproduces the composition of the engraving in the same direction, but differs in the numbering and wording of the verses. A rare combination of a print and a drawn version of the same subject. - Both sheets browned with age, spotted or foxed in places, irregular edges with small tears and light creases, the drawing also with a waterstain. Overall in very good condition, the drawing finely executed.
