Ausgabe. - Mit dekorativen, teils grenzkolorierten Karten von Griechenland mit großer Gesamtkarte und zahlreichen Detailkarten der griechischen Inselwelt, Vorderorient etc., hübschen Ansichten, einigen Grundrissen etc.- Die Karten stammen nicht von Barthélemy selbst, sondern von Jean-Denis Barbié du Bocage. Er war der führende französische Geograh seiner Zeit und zeichnete die Karten auf dem absolut neuesten Stand der damaligen Wissenschaft. Er glich historische Texte antiker Autoren (wie Pausanias oder Strabon) akribisch mit modernen geografischen Messungen vor Ort ab. - 1 Blatt mit kleinem hinterlegtem Randeinriß, sonst sauber und nur vereinzelt leicht braunfleckig. Gutes Exemplar.

Contemporary half-leather (somewhat rubbed). 2nd edition. - With decorative, partly outline-colored maps of Greece, including a large general map and numerous detail maps of the Greek islands, the Near East, etc., attractive views, some ground plans, etc. - The maps were not drawn by Barthélemy himself but by Jean-Denis Barbié du Bocage. He was the leading French geographer of his time and rendered the maps according to the absolute latest scholarly standards of the period. He meticulously cross-checked historical texts by ancient authors (such as Pausanias or Strabo) against modern geographical surveys taken on site. - One leaf with a small backed marginal tear, otherwise clean and only occasionally lightly browned. A fine copy.
