Monument de Yu, la plus ancienne inscription de la Chine, suivie de trente-deux formes d'anciens caracteres Chinois, avec quelques remarques sur cette inscription et sur ces caracteres. Mit einem Frontispiz und 32 Tafeln mit chinesischen Schriftzeichen. Paris, Treuttel und Wurtz, 1802. 1 Bl., 12 S., 1 Bl., 1 Bl., 1 Bl. Gr.-Folio. OPp. mit mont. DTitel (stark berieben und bestoßen, fleckig, Rücken tls. angebrochen und restauriert).

Geographie und Reisen – Erste Ausgabe des ersten französischen Werks des Philologen Joseph Hager. - Lust 987. - Löwendahl II, 717. - Die von Hager in der "Großen Japanischen Enzyklopädie" entdeckte Inschrift geht auf Kaiser Yu (um 2300 v. Chr.) zurück und erinnert an das Zurückweichen der durch sintflutartige Regenfälle entstandenen Überschwemmungen. Hager konnte den Text anhand zweier in der Bibliothèque nationale, die französische Übersetzung der Inschrift stammt von dem Jesuiten und Missionar Amiot (1718-1794). Für den Druck wurden die von Fourmont gestochen Schriftzeichen verwendet. - Ränder leicht gebräunt, tls. minimal fleckig. Unbeschnittenes und insgesamt sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar.
Geography and Travel – With a frontispiece and 32 plates featuring Chinese characters. Original Cardboard with mounted title label (heavily rubbed and bumped, stained, spine partially split and restored). - First edition of the first French work by the philologist Joseph Hager. - The inscription discovered by Hager in the "Great Japanese Encyclopedia" dates back to Emperor Yu (c. 2300 BCE) and commemorates the receding of floods caused by torrential rains. Hager was able to study the text using two copies held at the Bibliothèque nationale, the French translation of the inscription is by the Jesuit missionary Amiot (1718-1794). The characters engraved by Fourmont were used for the printing. - Margins slightly browned, with occasional minimal staining. An uncut copy in overall very good condition.
