History – An early edition of this influential classic, a milestone in modern economics. The first empirically grounded treatise on population growth and its social and economic consequences, and the first work to explicitly describe the dangers of exponential growth-it had a profound influence on subsequent thinkers such as John Stuart Mill, Karl Marx, and Charles Darwin. The 4th edition is based on the revised third edition, which includes an appendix by Malthus in response to objections to his earlier conclusions.
