- Gutes Exemplar.

History – Switzerland. - With numerous full-page engraved plates. A run of 28 annually published booklets. 4to. Contemporary 19th-century half cloth. Rare and culturally significant Zurich New Year's publication series issued by the "Society of Learned Gentlemen of the Chorherrenstube." The series began with the issue Auf das Neujahr 1779 ("For the New Year 1779") and was published as an annual New Year's gift for the inquisitive youth of Zurich. It also belongs to the tradition of Zurich's philanthropic societies: its distribution or sale served charitable purposes and contributed to the support of the orphanage. Written in a popular scholarly style and intended for a young readership, the booklets chiefly convey material drawn from Zurich, Swiss, and Reformation history. Their principal subjects include biographical sketches of Zurich clergymen, canons, teachers, and scholars, contributions to ecclesiastical and Reformation history, particularly relating to Zurich, historical and biographical accounts from earlier and more recent Swiss history, topics in local educational, intellectual, and moral history, and occasional contributions on natural history, moral instruction, and general education. - A good copy.
