Theologie - Bibeln
Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Selten. - Mit hs. Besitzvermerk von Jean Roth, sowie hs. Anmerkungen auf Vorsatz und Vortitel. - Kleine, kompakte Ausgabe der Bibel aus dem 17. Jahrhundert in französischer Sprache. Minimal fleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhaltene Exemplare in dekorativen Einbänden.
Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Red leather with gilt spine, gilt-stamped fillets, gilt-stamped vignette, and gilt edges (heavily rubbed and bumped, joints partially cracked). - Rare. - With a handwritten ownership inscription by Jean Roth, as well as handwritten notes on the endpaper and half-title. - Small, compact 17th-century edition of the Bible in French. This is the so-called "Bible de Genève," the classic Calvinist-Reformed translation of the Bible into French, which traces back to Pierre-Robert Olivétan's translation of 1535 and was subsequently revised several times by Jean Calvin and later Genevan theologians. The present edition of 1670 follows, textually, the important revision of 1669, which had been prepared by the Company of Pastors of Geneva ("Compagnie des pasteurs") and served as the authoritative textual basis for Reformed Genevan Bible printings in the following decades. At the same time, a large, richly annotated folio edition of this revision by Samuel and Henri Desmarets appeared in Amsterdam with the Elzevirs, the present Geneva edition, printed in two volumes, by contrast represents a more compact edition intended for practical use. - Margins slightly browned. Minimal staining. Overall, very well-preserved copies in decorative bindings.
