History – France - French Revolution - 2 vols. Contemp. half leather on 6 raised bands with red edges (heavily rubbed, chafed and bumped, spine and cover with small losses, joints partly cracking). - Issues 102 to 365 and issues 1 to 101, each with a title page dated 1795. - 'Le Moniteur Universel' was a daily periodical on the French Revolution, founded in Paris on 24 November 1789 by Charles-Joseph Panckoucke under the title 'Gazette Nationale ou Le Moniteur Universel' and discontinued on 31 December 1868. These half-yearly volumes provide an insight into the mood in France at the height of the Jacobin 'Reign of Terror', including, amongst other things, reports on the downfall and execution of Robespierre, Herbert and Danton, as well as the almost daily 'death lists' of those executed. - Title pages slightly foxed, brownstained and browned due to paper, the first two leaves of vol. 10 teared (approx. 5 cm) and with a small area where pages have stuck together, resulting in minor loss of text, otherwise overall well preserved.
