Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Rare legal collected volume containing the opinions and decisions in significant cases heard by the Neapolitan Council. Not in Adams and Brunet, Coing, or VD16 (which lists only a later edition). Cf. Stolleis, 2nd ed., p. 159. Matteo D'Afflitto (c. 1447-1523) received his doctorate in canon and Roman law from the University of Naples in 1468 and practised as an advocate and legal adviser. From 1490 onwards, he held judicial offices at the Camera Summaria and the Cura Vicaria, and from 1495 to 1501 he served as a member of the Royal Council of Naples. Like most Neapolitan jurists of his time, D'Afflitto focused exclusively on feudal law and ius patrium, the native law of Naples. He was among the last adherents of an influential school of Neapolitan jurists which, from the 13th century onwards, had supplied Europe with numerous scholarly works on feudal law. Name and annotations on the front free endpaper, first title leaf with two small ink spots and some browning, slight waterstaining, first leaves with light marginal waterstaining along the outer edge, final leaves with some waterstaining in the upper margin.
