Schinz ordnete sie nach den neuesten biologischen Systemen seiner Zeit (stark beeinflusst von Georges Cuvier, dessen Standardwerk "Das Thierreich" er auch ins Deutsche übersetzte). Die Lithos zeigen jeweils drei bis vier Abbildungen, darunter Geier, Falken, Eulen, Elstern, Paradiesvögel, Federschnabel, Schmuckvogel, Spechte, Zeisige, Papageien, Bürstenvögel, Colibri, Eisvögel, Pfauen, Fasane, Störche, Pelikane, Möwen u. v. m. Jede Abbildung mit dt., lat. und frz. Bezeichnung. - Tls. stockfleckig.
