Das Werk ist eines der frühesten umfassenden Hilfsmittel der deutsch-russischen medizinischen Terminologie und Lexikographie. Es entstand in einer Zeit, in der zahlreiche deutsche und deutschbaltische Ärzte und Apotheker im Russischen Reich tätig waren, etwa in St. Petersburg, Dorpat und Riga. Grünberg erfasst neben der Heilkunde auch die Fachsprache von Pharmazie, medizinischer Chemie, Physik, Naturgeschichte und Botanik sowie der Tiermedizin (Veterinärmedizin, Tierheilkunde). Hinzu kommen etymologische Erklärungen der medizinischen Termini griechischen Ursprungs. Der vierte Teil, ein russisch-lateinisches Register in kyrillischer Schrift, erschien 1842 bei Reimer in Berlin. Ein dritter Teil ist als deutsch-lateinisches Verzeichnis nachgewiesen. Das Werk ist eine wichtige Quelle zur Medizingeschichte, Pharmaziegeschichte und Wissenschaftsgeschichte Russlands. It is one of the earliest comprehensive reference works for German-Russian medical terminology and lexicography. It appeared at a time when many German and Baltic German physicians and apothecaries were practising in the Russian Empire, for instance in St Petersburg, Dorpat (Tartu) and Riga. Besides medicine, Grünberg covers the terminology of pharmacy, medical chemistry, physics, natural history and botany, as well as veterinary medicine (animal healing, farriery). He also gives etymological explanations of medical terms of Greek origin. The fourth part, a Russian-Latin index in Cyrillic script, was published by Reimer in Berlin in 1842. A third part is recorded as a German-Latin index. The work is an important source for the history of medicine, the history of pharmacy and the history of science in Russia.
