Lot 1514 29 …

29 Original-Silbergelatineabzüge von Menschen mit pathologischen Deformationen. O. O. (Ungarn), 1910. Ca. 16,5 x 11,4 cm bis 8 x 4,5 cm.

Medizin

Natural Sciences – Medicine. - 29 original silver gelatine prints of people with pathological deformities. S. l. (Hungary), 1910. Approx. 16.5 x 11.4 cm to 8 x 4.5 cm. - The photographs mostly show men and boys of various ages, presumably some of whom were inmates of psychiatric institutions, with various anatomical abnormalities (vitiligo, multiple fibromas and other skin conditions, extreme tissue enlargements). The prints are mostly mounted on cardboard or thicker paper of various formats and colours. Three of the photographs feature repeated motifs, and several others are labelled and dated in Hungarian in pencil on the reverse. One photograph, more precisely described in the mounting board recto, is of a forensic nature, depicting a head of a dead body with a bullet hole. - Some of the prints are slightly silvered at the edges, with tears and some discolouration. Overall mostly sharp and high-contrast prints from what is likely a unique collection.
