Weissenbach (1797-1846) was a Saxon Privy Councillor, mining engineer and mineralogist. He studied under Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817) at the Freiberg Mining Academy and, from 1820, was responsible for the extensive mineral collection that Werner had assembled and sold to the Academy. It is one of the few major early collections that are still preserved in their entirety.
