Naturwissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe.
Natural Sciences – Alchemy. - First edition. - A famous alchemical work by the physician from Catalonia, containing alchemical treatises and a collection of instructions on transmutation and medicine. Arnaldus of Villa Nova (1235-1311) was one of the most enigmatic figures in the history of medieval medicine, serving as personal physician to kings and popes. He introduced ethyl alcohol (which he called "Aqua Vini" and "Aqua Vitae"), produced by the distillation of wine, into Western medicine. He also used it to produce alcoholic extracts from medicinal herbs for medical purposes, such as liniments. The successful technique of extracting active ingredients from plants, known as maceration, is still used today for medical purposes. Many alchemical texts were falsely attributed to him after his death in order to lend the works greater authority. - With numerous underlinings in red, additional marginal notes, and 7 bound-in leaves, both sides bearing handwritten notes from an earlier period.
