Kriegsgefangenenlager
Wohlerhalten.
Manuscripts – (Volkswirtschaftslehre). Translated by Ágoston Halács. Krasnokamsk, 1916. Manuscript, reproduced by lithography. 186 pp. Contemporary paper wrappers. An extraordinary economics text produced in the prisoner-of-war camp at Krasnokamsk in Russia. In 1916, Hungarian prisoners of war made the work by hand and reproduced it by lithography. It is a rare testimony to the educational and publishing activity of Hungarian prisoners of war during the First World War. Camp press activity usually began with the reading aloud and copying of news from Russian newspapers. In almost every camp this grew into handwritten newspapers in the prisoners' own languages. These "camp periodicals" appeared in Russia mainly in 1915/16. Some were artfully written and illustrated booklets. Others were hectographed, handwritten sheets distributed by subscription. The camp authorities sometimes banned them because they regarded them as a security risk. The 1916 economics script fits into this context. Well preserved.
