ABC-Bücher

Kinderbücher – Einzigartiges, handgefertigtes ABC-Leporello, 1955 in Bonyhád (Ungarn) geschaffen. Zwei Seiten tragen handgeschriebenen Text in ungarischer Sprache.

Childrens Books – Hungarian Leporello ABC - Bonyhád, Hungary, 1955. Hand-made vintage leporello with 23 watercolour illustrations and two pages of hand-written text in Hungarian. 25 cardboard leaves. 34 × 23.5 cm. Unique, hand-made ABC leporello, created in Bonyhád (Hungary) in 1955. It presents 23 letters of the Hungarian alphabet in strong red with gold ornaments. Each letter is paired with an animal whose Hungarian name begins with that letter. For example, H stands for "hattyú" (swan). The cover bears the title motif "ABC". The three letters are painted in red and decorated with gold. An antelope (A), an owl (B) and a cat (C) sit inside them. Delicate olive-green tendrils frame the letters. Each individual page shows a large red letter with gold decoration, next to a coloured watercolour animal with ink outlines. The owl for B, for instance, perches on an oak branch against a deep-blue night sky with a yellow crescent moon. Two pages carry hand-written text in Hungarian. It is composed in rhyme and playfully describes the purpose of the little book. The initials A to F are designed as red initials heightened with gold, and Art Nouveau-style tendrils frame the text. The verses first name the antelope, the owl and the cat. They then promise that all the other animals will also parade in order through the big book. The booklet is dedicated to "Imruska", a diminutive of Imre. Cover slightly rubbed and tanned, pages moderately yellowed due to acidic paper, one page dog-eared, with occasional pencil marks. Overall in good condition.
