The reproductions bring together Picasso's spontaneous and extremely dynamic drawings of bullfighters, horses, bulls, and the dramatic moments of the corrida, Jaime Sabartés, Picasso's longtime friend, confidant, and secretary, contributed the accompanying text. The French edition was published simultaneously with the foreign-language editions. Of particular significance are the four original chalk lithographs created specifically for this work and printed by Mourlot Frères in Paris: La Pique, Le Picador II, *Jeu de la Cape, and Les Banderilles. Three plates are printed in black, Les Banderilles appears as an elaborate color lithograph in 24 colors and black. The text and illustrations were printed by Draeger Frères, and the original lithographs by Mourlot. - Beautiful copy.
