Klassische Moderne

Online - Moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst – Vgl. Knesebeck 55 IV. d.

Online - Modern and Contemporary Art – Etching on wove paper. Monogrammed in the plate on the left. With the blindstamp of the publisher von der Becke in the lower right plate margin. - Partially with light creasing. Traces of mounting to the reverse. Minimally foxed. Light toning within the former mat opening. With a small loss to the upper right corner. Overall good. Excellent, rich impression with strong plate tone. - Knesebeck 55 IV. d. - Published in 1901 as an independent genre study of proletarian life. The present sheet is a posthumous impression from the original plate from the edition of the Alexander von der Becke publishing house, printed during the Munich publishing period between 1963 and 1972. The etching was created following Kollwitz's journey to the North German port metropolis and impressively documents her unvarnished, socially critical engagement with the reality of the working class at the turn of the century.
