Klassische Moderne

Mounted in places and framed with a passe-partout. - The paper is slightly yellowed and shows faint creases, with a small tear at the bottom and a tear edge on the left. Overall in good condition. - In the early 20th century, Karl Hubbuch studied with George Grosz and Emil Orlik at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe and the Unterrichtsanstalt des Kunstgewerbemuseums in Berlin. From 1925, he worked as a professor at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe, from which he was dismissed by the National Socialists in 1933. This work clearly demonstrates that Hubbuch, in a large number of drawings, turned to a visual language characterised by precise observation. Alongside Otto Dix, the German artist is counted among the leading figures of Verism and New Objectivity in Germany.
