Online - Moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst – Monod 11122. - Fini, eine der zentralen Protagonistinnen des europäischen Surrealismus, schuf die vorliegende Farblithographie als Beitrag zu ihrer bedeutenden Buchfolge für Paul Verlaines Gedichtzyklus Parallèlement - einem Spätwerk des französischen Symbolismus, das in parallelen lyrischen Strängen Sinnlichkeit und Spiritualität, antike Dichtung und dekadente Moderne einander gegenüberstellt. Fini übersetzte Verlaines Dualitätsprinzip in eine bildnerische Urszene: zwei aufrechtstehende weibliche Figuren - eine in tiefem, lasierendem Dunkelbraun, die andere in leuchtendem Orange-Ocker - die einander weder berühren noch meiden, sondern in einer rätselhaften, gleichsam magnetischen Koexistenz verharren, die das gesamte Ouvre der Künstlerin durchzieht. Die meisterliche Beherrschung der lithographischen Lavis-Technik, mit der Fini aus einer einzigen Druckfarbe ein reiches Spektrum von fünf bis sechs differenzierbaren Tonstufen entwickelt, von vollgesättigten Tiefen bis zum aktiv eingesetzten Weiß des Papiers als hellster Tonwert, zeugt von der engen Zusammenarbeit mit den Pariser Druckateliers der späten 1960er Jahre. Inhaltlich greift das Blatt das für Fini zentrale Thema der weiblichen Doppelung auf - die Figuren lassen sich als zwei Aspekte einer psychischen Einheit lesen, als Ich und Schatten, als Bewusstes und Unbewusstes, eine Ikonographie, die die Künstlerin seit ihren frühen Sphinxdarstellungen der 1940er Jahre kontinuierlich verfeinert hatte.

A magnificent, fresh print of high quality with a rich, nuanced tonal range - the colours stand out vividly against a delicate, washed tonal background. - Fini, one of the central figures of European Surrealism, created this colour lithograph as a contribution to her significant series of books for Paul Verlaine's poetry cycle Parallèlement - a late work of French Symbolism that juxtaposes sensuality and spirituality, ancient poetry and decadent modernity in parallel lyrical strands. Fini translated Verlaine's principle of duality into a pictorial primal scene: two upright female figures - one in deep, glazed dark brown, the other in luminous orange-ochre - who neither touch nor avoid one another, but remain in an enigmatic, almost magnetic coexistence that pervades the artist's entire oeuvre. Fini's masterful command of the lithographic lavis technique-through which he develops a rich spectrum of five to six distinguishable tonal levels from a single ink, ranging from deeply saturated blacks to the actively employed white of the paper as the lightest tone-bears witness to his close collaboration with the Parisian print workshops of the late 1960s. In terms of content, the print takes up the theme of female duality, central to Fini's work - the figures can be read as two aspects of a psychological unity, as ego and shadow, as the conscious and the unconscious, an iconography that the artist had continually refined since her early depictions of sphinxes in the 1940s.
