Edition Schellmann, München/New York. - Seit seiner Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk Kasimir Malewitschs verfolgt Imi Knoebel eine konsequente Reduktion auf die elementaren Mittel der Malerei, die sich aus Form, Farbe und Fläche zusammensetzt. Die vorliegende dreiteilige Arbeit verdichtet diesen Ansatz in eine serielle Versuchsanordnung: Zwei Rechtecke, die durch den Titel eine latente Gegenständlichkeit vermitteln, werden in wechselnden Konstellationen erprobt, ihre Beziehung zueinander und zum Bildfeld in drei Schritten durchgespielt. Der Einsatz von Phosphorpigment verleiht dem rational gefügten Bildgefüge eine subtile Leuchtkraft.

This three-part work condenses this approach into a serial experimental arrangement: two rectangles, which convey a latent figurativeness through the title, are explored in varying constellations, their relationship to one another and to the picture plane played out in three stages. The use of phosphor pigment lends the rationally constructed pictorial structure a subtle luminosity.
