Edition Schellmann, München/New York anlässlich der documenta 11, Kassel.

Online - Photography - Moderne Photography – Giclée print on vellum. Signed and numbered. - Overall, in very good condition. Brilliant, richly coloured and high-contrast print with a narrow border. - One of 45 copies. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York, to mark documenta 11, Kassel. - This two-part work by David Goldblatt features two photographs from post-apartheid Johannesburg: above, an informal settlement with laundry hanging outside makeshift corrugated iron huts, below, a hand-painted sign on a city pavement. Both images exemplify Goldblatt's characteristic method of precise, unspectacular observation of places that lie between the grand narratives. Goldblatt is one of South Africa's most significant documentary photographers, for decades he photographed the social and spatial order of the apartheid system and its aftermath in the form of precise, quiet snapshots.
