Lot 427 Julian Opie. This is Shahnoza/Shahnoza …

This is Shahnoza/Shahnoza Pole Dancer. 2008. Farbserigraphie auf Vinylfolie, aufgezogen auf Keilrahmen. 256 x 120 cm. - Einige wenige kleine, kaum sichtbare Bereibungen. Insgesamt sehr gut und sauber. Prachtvoller, klar konturierter Druck.

Pop Art – Hg. v. Alan Cristea Gallery, London.

Pop Art – Colour silkscreen print on vinyl film, mounted on a stretcher frame. - A few small, barely visible scuffs. Overall in very good condition and clean. - Pub. by Alan Cristea gallery, London. - This vinyl film on a stretcher frame forms part of Julian Opie's "This Is Shahnoza" series, a body of work created from 2005 onwards in which the professional dancer Shahnoza posed in a series of choreographed poses. Opie, who analysed over 2,000 photographs as a basis for the work, translated the documentary material into his distinctive visual language: black contour lines, flat colouration, a neutral background. The human figure is reduced to its essentials without losing any of its expressiveness. The choice of vinyl film as the medium is more than a technical decision and alludes to commercial imagery, advertising graphics and the urban environment. With the figure of the pole dancer, the body of work also moves into a field steeped in art history: Opie takes up the traditional motif of the female nude and, through his choice of subject, his reduced formal language and the serial nature of the works, breaks it down in a contemporary manner.
