Amerikanisches Post War – Povenienz: Privatsammlung, Berlin. - Miles Davis widmet sich erst in den 1980er Jahren, gegen Ende seines Lebens, während einer Phase musikalischer Inaktivität, der Malerei und Zeichnung. Der Musiker wird von der New Yorker Malerin Jo Gelbard unterrichtet und arbeitet Erzählungen zufolge fortan täglich an seinen Werken. Das Kunstschaffen nimmt in seinem Leben sodann einen gleichwertigen Stellenwert wie die Musik ein.

Figurative rendering in bold strokes. - Provenance: Private collection, Berlin. - It was not until the 1980s, towards the end of his life and during a period of musical inactivity, that Miles Davis turned his attention to painting and drawing. The musician was taught by the New York painter Jo Gelbard and reportedly worked on his pieces daily from then on. Artistic creation subsequently came to occupy an equal place in his life as music.
