Amerikanische Moderne

Abstrakter Expressionismus – SFE-076 RC. - Eines von 14 Künstlerexemplaren vor der Auflage. - Gedruckt bei Valter & Eleonora Rossi, Vigna Antoniniana Stamperia d'Arte, Rom. - Hrsg. v. 2RC Edizioni d'Arte, ebd.

Abstract Expresionism – Colour aquatint on wove paper. Signed and indicated "A.(rtist) P.(roof)". - Hardly dusted, very isolated, very slight handling or crease mark in margin or corner, very slightly superficially paper rubbed in lower middle right, verso very isolated tiny brown stain, paper slightly rubbed in outer margins as trace from previous mounting, all in all very good and impeccably nice. Splendid, wonderfully contrast-rich and finely nuanced, multy-layered impression of the large-format prints with clearly drawn plate mark and wide margin. -One of 14 artist's proofs before the edition. - Printed by Valter & Eleonora Rossi, Vigna Antoniniana Stamperia d'Arte, Rome. - Publ. by 2RC Edizioni d'Arte, ibid. - With printer's and publisher's drystamp. - In 1970 Sam Francis opens his own printmaking studio, the Litho Shop in Santa Monica, California. Together with his staff he succeeds in capturing in his graphic works the same lightness and immediacy already evident in his paintings. Driven by a spirit of experimentation and untamed creativity, he produces among other works monumental aquatints such as "Trietto 3." The work's hues-wine red, emerald green, sky blue, and sun yellow-evolve into harmoniously balanced, atmospherically dynamic areas. Accompanied by expressive, bold splashes and splotches, they form a composition full of vibrant dynamic. Energetic and lively the colored forms and surfaces interact one with another, revealing the artist's distinctive style.
