Britische Moderne – Privatsammlung, Düsseldorf. - Die Generation-Serie markiert einen entscheidenden Wendepunkt in Maurice Cockrills Werk: den Übergang von expressiver Figuration zur Abstraktion Mitte der 1990er Jahre. In der vorliegenden Arbeit macht die pastose, gestische Malerei in nuancierten Erdtönen und leuchtendem Orange die körperliche Energie des Malakts unmittelbar sichtbar und zeugt von einer Bildsprache, die sich zunehmend vom Gegenständlichen löst, ohne ihre sinnliche Unmittelbarkeit einzubüßen. Der Titel verweist auf elementare Kräfte des Werdens und Vergehens: Die Erde erscheint nicht als Motiv, sondern als Substanz und Ursprung, aus der sich Form und Farbe organisch heraus entwickeln.

Overall, in very good condition. - The Generation series marks a decisive turning point in Maurice Cockrill's work: the transition from expressive figuration to abstraction in the mid-1990s. In this work, the impasto, gestural painting in nuanced earth tones and bright orange makes the physical energy of the act of painting immediately visible and testifies to a visual language that is increasingly detaching itself from the representational, without losing its sensual immediacy. The title refers to the elemental forces of becoming and passing away: the earth appears not as a motif, but as a substance and origin from which form and colour develop organically.
