Jahrhundert das Verhältnis von Autorschaft, Original und Reproduktion grundlegend neu verhandelt haben. Sturtevants seit den frühen 1960er Jahren entwickelte Praxis der strategischen Wiederholung zielt nicht auf Kopie oder Hommage, sondern auf die Freilegung der Mechanismen, durch welche Bedeutung und Werkcharakter in der Kunstgeschichte generiert werden. Indem Sturtevant Duchamps Provokationen erneut ins Bild setzt, wird nicht das Werk Duchamps visualisiert, sondern das System, das ihn zum Phänomen werden ließ.

Sturtevant's practice of strategic repetition, developed since the early 1960s, is not aimed at copying or paying homage, but at exposing the mechanisms through which meaning and the character of a work are generated in art history. By re-staging Duchamp's provocations, Sturtevant visualises not Duchamp's work, but the system that made him a phenomenon.
