Lot 375 Joseph Kosuth. Mondrian's Work XIII. 2023. …

Mondrian's Work XIII. 2023. Digitaler UV-Pigmentdruck auf Hahnemühle Velin. 56 x 56 cm.

- Hg. Edition Schellmann, München/New York.

Conceptual Art – Digital UV pigment print on Hahnemühle handmade paper (with watermark). Signed and numbered on a label on the reverse, with the publisher's stamp. - In very good condition overall. A magnificent, finely detailed impression of the linear composition, with rich, vibrant colours. - One of 15 copies. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York. - In Mondrian's Work XIII, Kosuth's conceptual approach is particularly striking: the colour fields in Mondrian's composition are entirely filled with quotations from his writings on colour, form and the disappearance of the material in favour of pure areas of colour. The geometric pictorial space becomes a vehicle for text whilst remaining an image. Kosuth thus lays bare Mondrian's theoretical foundation for his abstract painting and productively reverses this relationship, whereby it is not the image that illustrates the text, but the text that merges into the image.
