Berliner Künstlerprogramm des DAAD, Berlin 1988. - Peter Hutchinson zählt zu den Pionieren der Land Art und der Narrative Art und schuf über Jahrzehnte ein Werk, das Photographie, Collage und handgeschriebenen Text zu neuen Bedeutungsräumen verknüpft. Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit, die 1988 während eines DAAD-Stipendienaufenthalts in West-Berlin entstand, richtet Hutchinson seinen Blick auf die Berliner Mauer und damit auf eines der symbolträchtigsten Bauwerke des 20. Jahrhunderts. Das Entstehungsjahr 1992 bezeichnet einen Moment des historischen Nachklangs: Die Mauer ist gefallen, doch ihre Wunden im urbanen und kollektiven Gedächtnis sind noch sichtbar. So wird die Mauer selbst zum vorgefundenen Objekt, zur Intervention der Geschichte, die der Künstler collagierend kommentiert und befragt. Das Kastenformat erinnert an Joseph Beuys' Vitrinen oder Cornell-Boxen und verleiht dem Werk eine relikthaft-museale Qualität: Das Fragment der Berliner Mauer wird zum Beweisstück der Geschichte, zum buchstäblichen Überbleibsel eines politischen Traumas. Die Natur im Hintergrund des Fotos verstärkt dabei den Kontrast zwischen der Gewalt des Bauwerks und der Gleichgültigkeit der Landschaft.

Framed in a wooden box (unopened). - Overall in very good condition and clean. - Peter Hutchinson is one of the pioneers of Land Art and Narrative Art, and over the course of decades has created a body of work that combines photography, collage and handwritten text to create new spaces of meaning. In this work, Hutchinson turns his attention to the Berlin Wall and, with it, to one of the most symbolic structures of the 20th century. The year of its creation, 1992, marks a moment of historical resonance: the Wall has fallen, yet its scars on the urban and collective memory are still visible. Thus, the Wall itself becomes a found object, an intervention of history, which the artist comments on and interrogates through collage. The box format is reminiscent of Joseph Beuys' display cases or Cornell boxes and lends the work a relic-like, museum-like quality: the fragment of the Berlin Wall becomes an artefact of history, the literal remnant of a political trauma. The nature in the background of the photograph reinforces the contrast between the violence of the structure and the indifference of the landscape.
