Street Art

Contemporary Art – With 24 lithographed pages. - One of 1,000 copies. - The work reproduces pages from Basquiat's private notebooks: handwritten texts, lyrical fragments, word lists, and raw fragments of thought in his characteristic graffiti-like style. It presents Basquiat not primarily as a painter, but as a poet and thinker-his language was always fragmentary, associative, and laced with socially critical undertones. The title "Amateur Bout" (Amateur Fight) refers to Basquiat's deep fascination with boxing. Boxing figures were among his most personal and politically charged motifs: In the Black Boxer, he saw an icon of self-made power, a hero who triumphs despite deep-rooted racist resistance. This fighter reflected Basquiat's own role as a young artist of Haitian-Puerto Rican descent in the predominantly white art world.
