Lot 34 François Morellet. 4 carrés. 1992. Radierung und …

4 carrés. 1992. Radierung und Prägung auf BFK Rives-Velin (m. Wz.). 57 x 76 cm. Signiert und nummeriert. - Vereinzelte leichte Griffspur, v.a. im Unterrand, unten rechts punktuell leicht unfrisch, minimale Kantenbestoßung unten links, insgesamt sehr gut.

Geometrical Abstraction – Etching and embossing on BFK Rives-Velin (with watermark). Signed and numbered. - Isolated light handling marks, especially along the lower margin, slight discoloration in spots at the lower right, minimal edge wear at the lower left, overall in very good condition. Splendid, rich impression, with the embossing almost filling the depiction, with deckle edge at top and bottom. - One of 75 copies. - Printed by Tanguy Garric, Paris. - Publ. by the Fundación de la federación internacional de las juventudes musicales, Marcel Cuvelier, René Nicoly, Barcelona. - From a 4-parted portfolio featuring works by François Morellet's fellow artists Max Bill, Eduardo Chillida, and Sol LeWitt. - Morellet primarily uses basic geometric shapes and colors for his strictly abstract compositions which are characterized by rigorous objectivity and clarity. He subjects chance and unpredictability to a precise Arrangement, each element is positioned with the precision required to constitute the work. Simple geometric shapes, such as a square, are transformed into clean-lined rectangles and triangles. Significantly, it is precisely this process that imbues them with playfulness, irony, and wit.
