Lsa ruse de Dorcon, aus: Daphnis und Chloé. 1961. Farblithographie auf Velin. 42 x 32 cm. Verso punktuell in Ecken auf Passepartoutrückseite montiert. - Kaum sichtbar gebräunt, in unteren Ecken wenige, sehr leichte geglättete Knickspuren, am oberen linken Rand kleiner Einriss (ca. 0,5 cm), insgesamt sehr gut. Ganz ausgezeichneter, farbkräftiger Druck der formatfüllenden Darstellung.

Laut der antiken Erzählung wachsen auf der ägäischen Insel Lesbos die Findelkinder Daphnis und Chloe auf, erleben ihre Kindheit bei Hirten, werden voneinander getrennt, findet erneut zusammen, verlieben sich und stoßen schließlich auf ihre Eltern. Eine antike Geschichte im Zeichen der Bukolik, transferiert von Chagall ins moderne Zeitalter.

Verso spot-mounted in corners to mat's back. - Hardly visible brownedm ferw, very slight smoothened crease marks in lower corners, small marginal tear on upper left (ca. 0.5 cm), all in all very good. very superb, colour-rich impression of the format-filling depiction. - One of 250 copies. - Publ. by Tériade Éditeur, Paris. - With his 42-part cycle based on the ancient love story of Daphnis and Chloe by the Greek writer Longus, Chagall transports viewers in the mid-20th century to the fairy-tale world of an Arcadian natural landscape. According to the ancient tale, the foundlings Daphnis and Chloe grow up on the Aegean island of Lesbos, spend their childhood with shepherds, are being separated from one another, reunite, fall in love, and encounter finally their parents. An ancient story steeped in bucolic tradition, transformed by Chagall into a dreamlike fairy-tale world.
