International Postwar – Color serigraph on Graphia Simili Japon paper (with watermark). Signed and numbered. - Upper margin with a ca. 1 cm pinch pleat, verso with very minor rubbing. Overall very good. Splendid, color- intensive and velvety impression with margins, with deckle edges on all sides. - One of 75 impressions. - Sandro Chia is among the most important representatives of Italian Postmodernism and a leading figure of the Transavanguardia movement. Following his studies at the Istituto d'Arte in Florence and the Accademia di Belle Arti, he traveled extensively throughout Europe as well as to India and Turkey, experiences that had a lasting influence on his artistic development. In his work, Chia combines art-historical references to Cubism, Futurism, and Fauvism with a highly expressive visual language. The present work is characteristic of the Italian artist's oeuvre, featuring the powerfully modeled, often classically inspired figures for which he is renowned, rendered in vibrant and luminous color.
