Mes Dessins. 1990. Farbserigraphie auf Velin. 116,8 x 124,5 cm.
International Postwar – Colour silk-screen on wove paper. Signed and numbered. - Tear on lower middle margin, verso spot-mounted to underlying mat, all in all very good. Splendid, colour-intense impression of the format-filling depiction. - One of 50 copies. - From: "23 Artistes pour Médecins du Monde". - Publ. by Éditions de la Tempête, Paris. - With his distinctive visual language Roberto Matta breaks free from the confines of Classical Modernism in the second half of the 20th century by expanding it in including a dimension of unconscious mutability. He incorporates both constructive and narrative elements into his figurative formal language which he subjects, in a broader sense, to an abstracted formal will. Matta's pictorial figures draw on diverse fields such as architecture, natural science, literature, poetry and religion. Taken as points of inspiration, they reflect his creative, inner artist's world of experience and combine it with a message of ironically pointed sharpness. His compositions are characterised by a highly distinctive otherness that appears both unusual and fascinating. Amorphous figures in imaginary spaces that convey the impression of boundless time and remain temporarily concealed.
