Austrian Post War – Bronze cast, with a gold-brown patina. Signed and numbered. - Overall in very good condition, an excellent cast with striking patina. - One of 50 copies. - Published by the Kunstverein Heidelberg. Cast by Gernot Eichler, Eppingen-Mühlbach. - In his body of work, Alfred Hrdlicka often addresses the stories of suffering by the oppressed and the outcast. The Austrian artist, who studied sculpture under Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the 1950s, formulated the motto "Flesh = Art" in 1973 and distinguished between "lustful flesh" and "tormented flesh." For him, art fulfills its fundamental function exclusively by making visible the human being in his two physical forms. This bronze sculpture was created shortly after the development of this guiding principle.
