East German Art – Ink, wash, asphalt varnish, and embossing on handmade wove paper. Monogrammed and dated, signed, dated and titled on the verso. - A closed tear approx. 23 cm long at the top. Overall in very good condition. An expressive work featuring a bold wash in a full-format composition. - We would like to thank Mr. Nicholas Staudt for the inclusion in the catalogue raisonné addendum. - This work is characteristic of Morgner's oeuvre, in which he engages intensively with humanity and the human condition. In the artist's works, physical motifs merge with a multi-layered symbolic language. A defining feature is the tightly composed pictorial space, which creates an oppressive atmosphere. The figures depicted appear anonymous, vulnerable and marked by existential experiences.
