Lot 111 Gerhard Richter. Kanarische Landschaften I. …

Kanarische Landschaften I. 1971. Heliogravure auf Velin. 15,5 x 23 cm (39,5 x 50 cm). Signiert und nummeriert. - Ränder stellenweise leicht unregelmäßig, wenige kleine, punktuelle Fleckchen, verso mit blassem Farbdurchschlag. Insgesamt sehr gut.

German Post War – Heliogravure on laid paper. Signed and numbered. - Edges slightly uneven in places, a few small, isolated spots, faint ink bleed-through on the reverse. Overall in very good condition. A magnificent print with an atmospheric quality, the colours are fresh. - Butin 39e. - One of 100 copies. - Published by Galerie Heiner Friedrich, Munich 1971. - This heliogravure is part of a six-part edition based on photographs taken by Gerhard Richter in 1969 during a stay in the Canary Islands. The choice of heliogravure as the printing process represents a conceptual decision, through which the photographic original is transformed into an independent work. The characteristic blurring finds an appropriate medium in the soft tonality of the heliogravure. Contours dissolve, details recede, and in their place comes an atmospheric density that lifts the motif from the documentary and transforms it into a quiet, almost dreamlike visual world.
