Naturwissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe der frühen und bedeutenden Schrift zur wissenschaftlichen Meteorologie und Wetterstatistik. - ADB VI, 157-158. - Poggendorff I, 672. - De Backer/Sommervogel III, 403, 6. - Der bayrische Jesuit Franz Xaver Epp (1733-1789) beschäftigte sich in seinen Werken vor allem mit Fragen aus den Gebieten der Elektrizität, des Magnetismus und der Meteorologie. Epp war für das meteorologische Messnetz der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften verantwortlich und gab die "Münchner Meteorologischen Ephemeriden" heraus. Bereits 1759 begannen an der Akademie systematische Wetterbeobachtungen. Sie wurden ab 1781 auf dem Hohenpeißenberg südwestlich von München fortgesetzt und auch publiziert. Ab 1934 in den neu gegründeten Reichswetterdienst integriert, wird die von Epp ins Leben gerufene Messreihe heute vom Deutschen Wetterdienst betrieben, und zählt sie damit zu den längsten und homogensten Reihen der Welt. - Provenienz: Herzoglich Wittelsbachersche Schlossbibliothek Tegernsee, aufgelöst im Jahr 2014. - Vorsätze gering gebräunt, diese sowie das Titelblatt in den Rändern minimal fleckig, insgesamt wohlerhaltenes Exemplar dieses Rarums im schmucken Adelseinband.

Natural Sciences – Meterology. - First edition of this early and important work on scientific meteorology and weather statistics. - For references see above. - The Bavarian Jesuit Franz Xaver Epp (1733-89) primarily addressed questions in the fields of electricity, magnetism, and meteorology. Epp was responsible for the meteorological network of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and published the "Munich Meteorological Ephemerides". Systematic weather observations began at the Academy as early as 1759. These observations were continued and published from 1781 onwards at Hohenpeißenberg, southwest of Munich. Integrated into the newly founded Reich Weather Service in 1934, the scientific measurement series initiated by Epp is now operated by the German Weather Service, making it one of the longest and most homogeneous series in the world. - Provenance: Ducal Wittelsbach Castle Library, Tegernsee, dismantled in 2014. - Endpapers slightly browned, these and the title page minimally foxed at the edges, overall a well-preserved copy of this rarity in an noble binding.
