Der Textband bietet eine systematische Beschreibung der wichtigsten geologischen Formationen des Départements Puy-de-Dôme, erläutert ihre Abfolge, Struktur und Entstehung sowie die petrographischen Eigenschaften der Gesteine, aus denen sie bestehen. Besonderes Gewicht legt Lecoq auf den vulkanischen Charakter der Region, die Übergänge zwischen vulkanischen und sedimentären Schichten und die didaktisch klare Darstellung für Naturforscher und Sammler. Der dazugehörige Atlasband enthält 31 lithographierte, teils in fein abgestuften Tönen kolorierte Tafeln, die Ansichten (Vues) und geologische Schnitte (Coupes) der wichtigsten Formationen zeigen - darunter Vulkankegel, Plateaus, Täler und Aufschlüsse. Die Tafeln sind nicht nur topografische Ansichten, sondern zugleich schematische Profile, in denen die verschiedenen Gesteinsschichten farblich und grafisch unterschieden sind, sodass der geologische Aufbau des Puy-de-Dôme-Gebiets auf einen Blick erkennbar wird. Im Zusammenhang mit den beschriebenen Gesteinsproben und den erwähnten "Échantillons des roches" ist das Werk als eine Art früher geologischer Lehrkasten konzipiert: Text, Bildtafeln und (ursprünglich) physische Proben greifen ineinander und machen Lecoqs Publikation zu einem selten vollständigen, museal geprägten Ensemble der Geologie des frühen 19. Lecoq's "Vues et Coupes des Principales Formations Géologiques du Département du Puy-de-Dome" is a lavishly produced early geological plate work devoted to the landscape and petrology of the Auvergne. The text volume offers a systematic description of the principal geological formations of the Département Puy-de-Dôme, explaining their succession, structure and genesis, as well as the petrographic characteristics of the rocks of which they are composed. Lecoq places particular emphasis on the volcanic character of the region, the transitions between volcanic and sedimentary strata, and a didactically clear presentation aimed at naturalists and collectors. The accompanying atlas volume contains 31 lithographed plates, some coloured in finely graded tones, showing views (vues) and geological sections (coupes) of the most important formations, including volcanic cones, plateaus, valleys and outcrops. The plates are not only topographical views, but also schematic profiles in which the different rock layers are distinguished by colour and graphic conventions, so that the geological structure of the Puy-de-Dôme area can be grasped at a glance. In conjunction with the described rock samples and the "échantillons des roches" originally supplied, the work is conceived as a kind of early geological teaching set: text, illustrative plates and physical specimens were designed to complement each other, making Lecoq's publication a rarely complete, museum-like ensemble of early 19th-century geology. - Pages are slightly browned or spotted. - Very scarce.
