Architektur – Erste Ausgabe, selten.
Architecture – First edition, rare. - With the author's autograph dedication on the half-title page and handwritten note "not published." - An extraordinary architectural autobiography in book form-a guide to Soane's own house, now known as Sir John Soane's Museum in London. The book describes in detail the architecture, layout, and collections of his house at 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. With decorative interior and exterior views, several floor plans, and illustrations of his collections. J. Soane was one of England's most independent architects, and his complex and unexpected spatial effects make him more romantic than classicist. His own house represents the pinnacle of his architectural development. It is eccentric and individualistic to the point of eccentricity, especially inside with its interlocking and interconnecting rooms, floors of varying heights, etc. - Some foxing, barely visible faded stamp on title page, rear. Inside cover with name painted over, inside cover with 2 different bookplates: engraved contemporary bookplate by H. de Triqueti (French painter and sculptor, 1804-1871) and modern bookplate.
