Eigenhändiger Brief mit Unterschrift des Philologen und Bibelwissenschaftlers (1866-1943) an den Historiker Eugen Täubler (1879-1953). Hamburg, 25. Jan. 1934. 6 beids. beschr. Bll.

Judaica

- Dabei: Der im Brief abschließend angekündigte Sonderabdruck von Rubens "A proposed new methods of textual critisism in the Old Testament". 3 Tle. kompl. Reprinted ... from The American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literatures Vol. LI, No 1 (Oct.) 1934, No 3 (April) 1935, Vol. LII, No 1 (Oct.) 1935. S. (30)-45, (177)-188, (34)-41. Heftklammerung (tls. etw. gebräunt, angeknickt u. angestaubt).

Autographs – Autograph letter signed by the philologist and biblical scholar (1866-1943) to the historian Eugen Täubler (1879-1953). - Reply to the submission of Täubler's "Work on Habakkuk." "For almost four decades, I have repeatedly returned to Habakkuk and have dealt with the first two chapters in detail in my work 'Recensio and Restitutio'... My views differ considerably from yours... It seems to me that any truly philological (i.e., non-confessional) engagement with the texts of the Old Testament must presuppose a thorough consideration of everything that Protestant exegesis has brought to light in terms of concerns, observations, and suggestions ... As foreign as Protestant religiosity is to me ... Protestant scholars have nevertheless produced much that is very useful, and many of them seem to me to be more congenial in their sensibility to the biblical authors than, for example, the Jews ..." (transl.). - This is followed by a detailed discussion with textual evidence and quotations, partly in Hebrew. - Horizontal center fold, the first half page and the following four pages with damp stains in the margins (ink slightly faded there on the first page), the first page somewhat soiled and with a trace of a rusty paperclip, ink slightly smudged on the last page, otherwise overall well preserved. - Included: The special reprint of Rubens' "A proposed new methods of textual critism in the Old Testament," announced at the end of the letter. 3 parts complete. Reprinted ... from The American Journal of Semitic Languages ??and Literatures Vol. LI, No. 1 (Oct.) 1934, No. 3 (April) 1935, Vol. LII, No. 1 (Oct.) 1935. pp. (30)-45, (177)-188, (34)-41. Stapled binding (partly slightly browned, creased and dusty).
