Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Eins von 35 nummerierten Exemplaren, Titel vom Kunstler signiert. - Schulze (geb. - Innen sehr gut erhalten.
Modern Literature and Art – Inszenarium zu Adolph Menzels 'Eisenwalzwerk' 1872. With photographs by Jurgen Wilhelm. Berlin, 1984. 3 leaves. Title, image reproduction and foreword in duplicated handwriting on inclusive Japan paper, 33 leaves of transparent paper with 22 sketches and 11 photographs in offset lithography. 40.5 x 29.5 cm. Cardboard cover with spine strip and brush-lettered cover label 'Sketchbook. Michael Schulze 1984' (dust-stained, slightly rubbed and stained). One of 35 numbered copies, title signed by the artist. - Schulze (born 1952) studied at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1976 to 1985 and held the chair of plastic arts at RWTH Aachen University from 1997 to 2017. This work from his later student days already documents Schulze's specific approach to objects and sculptures. Menzel's painting fascinated him "not as an illustration, but rather as innovation, dynamism, movement, light and space ... My focus was on the middle group of workers who are pulling the "magnifying glass" out of the roller with pliers and crowbars. Menzel has formally assigned these as tools or machine parts. Accordingly, I welded iron and machine parts together to form figures that were treated with tar and jute ... the heroisation becomes blasphemy.' (Preface, titled 'Allegory of Progress"). - Very well preserved inside.
