Lot 742 Pablo Picasso. Linolschnitte. Einleitung …
Linolschnitte. Einleitung Wilhelm Boeck. Mit 45 farbigen Tafeln in Linolschnitt nach Arbeiten von Pablo Picasso. Stuttgart, Hatje, 1962. 8 Bll., 45 Taf. Quer-Folio. OLwd. im ill. OSchuber.
Modern Literature and Art – With 45 colour plates in linocut based on works by Pablo Picasso Oblong folio. Orig cloth in orig slip-case. - The sheets published in this volume by Hatje Verlag are based on linocuts that were created in close collaboration with the Parisian Galerie Louise Leiris and issued in 1962 as carefully executed, intensely colored prints. The reproductions follow the originals with great precision: several printing passes and rich layers of color give the images a relief-like quality that powerfully conveys the physical presence of the linocuts. Picasso employs the seemingly simple technique of linocut to experiment with planes, contours, and contrasts of light and dark. The motifs appear at once radically simplified and compositionally refined, with the artist exploiting the possibilities of the medium - from block-like color fields to delicate line work - with great virtuosity. The white margin shows slight, occasional isolated brown spotting.
