Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Seltene deutsche Ubersetzung von Daguerres Beschreibung seines wegweisenden photographischen Verfahrens im Jahr der franzosischen Original-Ausgabe. - Heidtmann 6067. - Vgl. PMM 318b u. Borst 1897 (für die franz. Original-Ausgabe, letzterer auch für 2 andere dt. Ausg. von 1839). - Mit einem bislang unbekannten, hier auf den fliegenden Vorsatz recto kaschierten Einblattdruck, worauf eine "Verkaufs-Anzeige von Daguerre'schen Apparaten" des Stuttgarter "Mechanikus und Optikus" Carl Geiger und einem Verzeichnis der Druckfehler. Geiger fertige die von Daguerre in vorliegender Schrift beschriebenen Apparate an hielt sie in seiner Wohnung zur Ansicht bereit. Weiters mit der Beschreibung eines Dioramas, einer abgedunkelten Modell-Schaubühne mit halbdurchsichtigem, beidseitig unterschiedlich bemaltem Prospekt, die in den anderen beiden dt. Ausg. nicht vorkommt. Daguerres Diorama wurde bei einem Brand im März 1839 zerstort. Vorangestellt schließlich eine ausführliche Erläuterung der Abbildungen. - Titelblatt mit kleinem privatem Besitzerstempel. Einige Marginalien mit weichem Bleistift, stellenweise mit wenigen kleinen Stockfleckchen, sonst wohlerhaltenes Exemplar dieses photohistorischen Rarissimums, das für uns auf Auktionen der letzten 30 Jahre nur 4 Mal nachweisbar ist, mit der seltenen Anzeige wohl unikal.

Modern Literature and Art – Rare German translation of Daguerre's description of his groundbreaking photographic invention in the year of the original French edition, illustrated with 2 folding lithographic plates depicting 30 figures. The original wrappers bound in. - For references see above. - With a previously unknown single-sheet print tipped-on fly-leaf recto, containing an advertisement for Daguerre's apparatus by Carl Geiger, a "mechanic and optician" from Stuttgart, and a list of errata. Geiger manufactured copies of the apparatus described by Daguerre in this publication and kept them on display in his apartment. The text also includes a description of a diorama, a darkened model stage with a semi-transparent backdrop painted differently on both sides, which does not appear in the other two German editions. Daguerre's diorama was destroyed in a fire in March 1839. Finally, this edition is preceded by a detailed explanation of the illustrations. - Title page with small private owner's stamp. Some marginalia in soft pencil, a few small foxing spots in places, otherwise well-preserved copy of this rare item, which we have only been able to trace four times at auctions over the last 30 years, probably unique with the rare advertisement.
