Lot 689 Henri Matisse. Portraits. Texte de Henri …

Portraits. Tafeln. Kl.-Folio. Monte Carlo, André Sauret, 1954. OBroschur. in Chemise und Schuber.

Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Bolliger IV, 457. - Duthuit (Livres Illustrés), 33. - Monod 7849. - Erste Ausgabe des bedeutenden Textes. In kleinerer nummerierten Auflage erschienen. - Sehr gutes Exemplar.

Modern Literature and Art – With 1 original lithograph by Henri Matisse, a color lithographed cover after Matisse, and 93 plates (33 in color). First edition of this significant text, published in a smaller numbered edition. The artist himself selected the drawn, engraved, and painted portraits. Matisse reflects on his artistic philosophy in the texts, emphasizing linearity and color harmony in portraits, as seen in his Fauvist works or later paper cut-outs. The original lithograph "Pompadour" (often interpreted as a portrait of a woman in the style of the Marquise de Pompadour) and the plates feature portraits of models like Henriette Darricarrère or Lydia Delektorskaya, demonstrating his reduction to essence. - Very good copy.
