Seltsame Leiden eines Theater-Direktors. Aus mundlicher Tradition mitgetheilt vom Verfasser der Fantasiestucke in Callots Manier. Berlin, Maurer, 1819. VI, 266 S. 18 x 10 cm. Moderner Pergamentband im Schuber, Deckel und Rucken figurlich in lavierter Original-Federzeichnung gestaltet.
Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Erste vollstandige Ausgabe. - Goedeke VIII, 492, 38. - Vollstandig mit den oft fehlenden Verlagsanzeigen ab S. 251. - Einzelne Gesprachspassagen der Dialogerzahlung wurden als eigenstandige theaterkritische Artikel vorab publiziert, eine erste Fassung erschien 1817 anonym unter dem Titel "Die Kunstverwandten" in der Zeitschrift "Dramaturgisches Wochenblatt". Gegenuber dieser Fassung ist die Buchfassung um das Dreifache erweitert. Hoffmann verarbeitet in dem Werk Erfahrungen am Theater in Bamberg. - Titel mit altem Stempel "Philipp Prinz von Hanau", im Innendeckel radiertes Exlibris des Hoffmann-Verlegers Michel Duske (Serapion vom See), fur ihn wohl die Einbandgestaltung mit nicht identifiziertem Monogramm am Ruckdeckel. - Gelegentlich etwas stockfleckig, sauberes Exemplar.
Modern Literature and Art – First complete edition. - Goedeke VIII, 492, 38. - Complete with the often missing publisher's notices from p. 251 onwards. - Individual passages from the dialogue were published in advance as independent theatre reviews, an early version appeared anonymously in 1817 under the title 'Die Kunstverwandten' in the magazine 'Dramaturgisches Wochenblatt'. The book version is three times longer than this version. In this work, Hoffmann draws on his experiences at the theatre in Bamberg. - Title with old stamp 'Philipp Prinz von Hanau', etched bookplate of Hoffmann's publisher Michel Duske (Serapion vom See) on the inside cover, probably responsible for the cover design with unidentified monogram on the back cover. - Occasional foxing, clean copy.
