Goya, Francisco
Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Delteil 220-223. - Harris 266-269 III.
Modern Literature and Art – With 29 plates, including a series of 4 original aquatint etchings by Francisco de Goya on Butten, 17 original etchings, and 3 photoengravings, as well as numerous text illustrations. Magnificently bound edition of the famous art magazine The French magazine "L'Art" was published between 1875 and 1907 and contained several original prints by various artists. The following original aquatint etchings by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) are included: "Goya," "Lluvia de Toros," "Ortas Leyes por el Pueblo," "Que Guerrero," and "Una Reina del Circo." The prints are from the series "Los Proverbios," but were not published until the 19th century. For these four compositions in particular, the publication in "L'Art" is the first verifiable edition of the works, later prints are based on the same copper plates, but are chronologically subordinate. The series "Los Disparates" or "Los Proverbios" was never published during Goya's lifetime, Goya had only made proofs and the plates remained in the family's possession. - Further prints by Browne, Gonzalez, Guillemet, Leighton, Paczka, Charbonnel, and others. - Goya's prints are of excellent quality, with even printing and high contrast, emphasizing their nocturnal, fantastical character. - Well preserved and rare.
