Meistereinband Reliure de Luxe um 1920. Über den gesamten Deckeln in feinstem geglätteten Ziegeleder spannt sich ein feines Netz aus goldgeprägten, bogenförmig geschwungenen Linien, die sich in regelmäßigen Abständen kreuzen und so eine strenge, aber sehr elegante Symmetrie erzeugen. In den Eckpunkten dieser Linien sowie an den Rändern sitzen kleine, differenziert ausgearbeitete Goldornamente, die an klassizistisch-rokokoartige Eck- und Blütenstempel erinnern und dem Ganzen eine zarte, dekorative Fassung geben. Das Zentrum des Deckels wird durch ein dichter komponiertes, kreuzförmig angeordnetes Bündel von Linien und kleinen Ranken- oder Blütenmotiven hervorgehoben, das wie ein stilisiertes Monogramm erscheint, jedoch offensichtlich primär ornamentale Funktion hat. Die Präzision und Schärfe der Vergoldung, die Qualität des Leders und die souveräne Beherrschung der geschwungenen Linien deuten auf eine hochwertige meisterhafte Handarbeit eines spezialisierten Vergolders hin. Stilistisch steht der Einband zwischen spätem Historismus und früher Moderne: Das Spiel mit abstrakten, geometrisierten Kurven verbindet sich mit traditionellen Goldornamenten zu einem luxuriösen, aber nicht überladenen Dekor. Aufgrund dieser Merkmale lässt sich der Einband plausibel in die Zeit zwischen etwa 1890 und 1930 einordnen, mit einer leichten Tendenz in die Jahre um 1900 bis 1920, als solcherart feinlinige, dekorative Luxusbindungen im gehobenen französischen und kontinentaleuropäischen Buchgewerbe besonders beliebt waren. (Rücken minimal aufgehellt, auf dem Hinterdeckel mit zwei dezenten Kratzspuren, Vorne minimal berieben am Rand.)

Modern Literature and Art – Bindings. - Masterful Reliure de Luxe binding, circa 1920. A delicate network of gold-embossed, arched lines spans the entire covers, made of the finest smoothed brick leather. These lines intersect at regular intervals, creating a strict but very elegant symmetry. At the corners of these lines and along the edges are small, intricately crafted gold ornaments reminiscent of classic Rococo-style corner and flower stamps, giving the whole a delicate, decorative finish. The center of the lid is highlighted by a densely composed, cross-shaped bundle of lines and small tendril or flower motifs, which appears like a stylized monogram but obviously has a primarily ornamental function. The precision and sharpness of the gilding, the quality of the leather, and the masterful handling of the curved lines indicate high-quality, masterful craftsmanship by a specialized gilder. Stylistically, the cover stands between late historicism and early modernism: the interplay of abstract, geometric curves combines with traditional gold ornaments to create a luxurious but not overloaded decor. Based on these characteristics, the binding can plausibly be dated to between around 1890 and 1930, with a slight tendency towards the years around 1900 to 1920, when such finely detailed, decorative luxury bindings were popular in upscale French and continental European bookbinding.
